June 20, 2007: My newest podcast is The Better World Show.
I’m doing it with the witty, smart, committed, funny, opinionated, outspoken and articulate Cameron Reilly, the CEO of The Podcast Network. Cam is a Big Vision guy, and he’s inspired me to do more with my life, not just with my podcasts.
We’re looking to launch it sometime this summer. Here’s the scoop on The Better World Show:
You’re so busy. All day long, you work a full time job. Maybe a half-time one, too. You have kids, or other family, or friends you need to be with, to take care of. There are household errands to do, the car needs servicing, the computer goes on the fritz. There’s laundry and doctor appointments, a dog to walk and bills to pay. What about that movie you want to see or the book you’ve been meaning to read? Then there’s that hobby keep meaning to do: You long to write, or paint, take pictures or play guitar.
Maybe you do some of those things. Maybe you do them all. But no matter how much you work, how fast you run, there's never enough time. There’s so much to do.
But as you race through your days and labor and love and struggle and thrive with every important and trivial thing that occupies your time, there’s a noise in the background telling you that everything isn’t quite right.
There are troubles out there. Maybe they don’t affect you right now, maybe they seem like someone else’s problems, but they seep into your consciousness nonetheless. They’re things you hear about on the news or see on the web.
Global warming. A crisis in someplace called Darfur. Abuse of animals. AIDS in Africa. Human rights violations, genocides, poverty.
They all sound so terrible. So overwhelming. Someone should do something. But who?
How about you?
The Better World Show is all about what you can do to make the world a, well, better place. A kinder, fairer, safer and healthier planet on which all of us can live.
Every week (or so) we’ll give you just enough information to get the broad strokes of what’ going on out there. We’ll have interviews with experts who understand these issues and who can explain them in ways that will move, enlighten and empower you.
We’ll also give you information on what you can do to make a difference. You don’t have to quit your job, leave your family and join the Peace Corps to be part of the solution. There are little things you can do, change or give that will help make a big difference.
It’s a tough world out there. Join us on our journey to make it a better one.
I hope you give it a listen when we get the show live.
